Bonjour à toutes et à tous, Ça va?
My name is Gia Lovelady, and I am very excited to have new readers at https://patisseries-litteraire.weebly.com
I recently read a Time magazine article addressing, The Secret to Learning a Foreign Language as an Adult, (How to Learn French in 17 Days), and realized once again that I needed a total life revitalization. I read the article, (link is below), and realized that CEO David Bailey of Time Magazine describes how he taught himself French in only 17 days. Superb! So, in the mornings, I also awaken, and I write out longhand, the regular and irregular verb tables for 1.5 - 2 hours. I'm making another valiant effort when I started saving Parisian links for how to live an authentic life and also saved links like, Love Paris? Here Are 13 Instagram Accounts You Should Be Following.
Yes, I graduated with a college degree in paralegal studies, worked as a legal associate in a few law firms, and got divorced a couple of years ago. I moved from Chicago to Nevada, and to Arizona and back to Nevada in the past couple of years. I moved a lot of my furniture, tossed out unnecessary items, and sat by the pool all day this past summer. It's quite a challenge to sit with oneself and then ask the proverbial question,"Ce que je veux faire de ma vie?"
It took months to narrow it down to the ultimate truth as to what I really wanted to do with my life. Options were to attend culinary school and to become a pâtisserie chef, and another option was to study and become a décorateur d'intérieur, since I'd been watching HGTV's Househunters International, for years. But then I thought, what happens when you sit with yourself and painstakingly ask what you really want out of life? The truth emerges. I did this, I sat with myself quietly for weeks, and that was when Professeur Avery came into my mind once again.
Professeur Avery was my very astute, and sometimes comical, and prolifically grandeur high school French teacher. I met him when I was 14, and he's still inside of my head and providing impromptu instruction. But why did he choose to make an unannounced appearance at this point in my life? After all, I chose French in high school above German and Italian foreign language choices, so he knew that my interests in French language and culture were genuine. And many years later, here we are again, with Professeur Avery speaking French in my mind's eye. That's when I knew to at least approach life in all of its remedial forms, and to embrace French again as a part of my life renewal.
Now I was going to do what I loved, and do it all the time. My goals are: taking this French course so to use French as I travel abroad to Paris, and for speaking as the Québécois speak in parts of French Provincial Canada. I will also be attempting a MA degree in French studies, and I desire to become one of the most prolific non-native speakers of the French language. If I become prolific enough, I will attempt an MA in French Literature. My favorite online magazines are Condé Nast Traveler, The Luxury Travel Blog, and Étudier le Français. So, if you'd like to catch that great foreign language read, the link is provided below. (incidentally, the song provided is rather catchy).
Getting back to the DYI article with advice and resources on how to learn French in 17 days, I've taken total advantage of the article's suggestion for studying verb tenses, and for Christmas I'll be reading.“Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” in French.
So, you see that French II takes on more than just a foreign language class to me, it is actually a choice that I made back when I was a 14 year old kid. Even today and now older, the beautiful flow of the French language still permeates the senses. And you know what else? At 14 years old, I already knew that I had a passion for Paris.
Merci Boucoup,
Gia Lovelady
